Traveling in Buddhist Asia is the way to experience the stupa phenomenon. After seeing a few large stupas it starts to grow on you. The mystery deepens and you wonder at the energy and devotion needed to build one. In some countries, it is staggering to realize how many stupas and their remains have made it down to the modern era. Then you discover the totality of how many were actually built over the years, many of which didn’t make it, and the top of your head blows off.
